Fishing:
One of the nicest things about visiting the Lake Placid region is the wide variety of fishing opportunities the area has to offer. From world famous trout streams to wilderness pond fishing, there is something for everyone. Come out for one of our

Hiking:
Lake Placid is set right in the heart of the Adirondacks - home of the 46 high peaks, countless vistas, waterfalls, wildlife - natural untouched beauty. The tallest peak in New York State, Mount Marcy, is the crown jewel, reaching a height of 5344 feet! Let us supply you with the maps and some suggestions based on your fitness level, or call

Biking:
In Lake Placid, you can bike down Whiteface or across the trails at the
Verizon Sports Complex. Want to learn? How about a one or two day 'Fun Not Fear' biking camp from High Peaks Cyclery? Pop the bikes in the car, or rent 'em when you get here. Click here for more info.

Paddle Sports - Canoing and Kayaking:
With 3,000 lakes and ponds and 6,000 miles of rivers and streams in the Adirondacks, finding a place to canoe or kayak is no problem - simply

Your outing can be as simple as a short paddle around scenic Mirror Lake, right across the street from Northwoods, or as challenging as an excursion into the remote St. Regis Wilderness Canoe Area. Rent a boat and gear from Jones Outfitters, or bring your own and hire a guide for a tour of the pristine waters of the Adirondacks.

White Water Rafting:
Looking for a little action? Enjoy one of the finest white water rafting adventures in the East. The rafting season begins in early April and runs through mid October. The waters of the Adirondacks offer a choice of rivers for all abilities; river trips vary from family fun to raging big water. Adirondack Rafting Company's guides are some of the most skilled and experienced in New York State.

Rock and Ice Climbing:
The high peaks have climbing opportunities for all levels, from the beginner through the most experienced mountain man (or woman!). Get your feet under you at the indoor climbing gym at The Climbery, just a short walk from Northwoods, then go on a 1/2 day adventure climbing school out in the mountains with
High Peaks Mountain Adventures. The professional guides at High Peaks will help to facilitate the development of your skills and techniques that will give you the confidence to take the first step on the rock if you have never climbed before, or help you to reach new climbing heights.

Horseback Riding:
Need to give your feet a break? Meander through the wilderness on horseback. Stay with Northwoods Inn and spend the day at the
Stables at The Barkeater on their 20 miles of trails. Choose either English or Western, and a professional guide will take you for a ride on one of their 50 sure footed steads.
